1) CURTAINS UP

You’ve just woken up in a small dressing room, which is certainly not where you went to bed last night. Actually, do you even remember going to sleep…? Regardless, this isn't where you last were, and if you leave your room you’re going to find a lot of other people in the same state.

Go out and socialize! Most of these people may be strangers, but you’re gonna all have to get used to one another. And who knows? There may actually be a familiar face in the crowd.

2) THIS PETTY PACE

By now, you're acquainted with everybody here and you're slowly growing bored. Bored enough to kill? Hopefully not. You'd better try to find something else to do. You can always go hang out with your castmates, or maybe try and whip something up in the kitchen! There’s also a music room to keep you busy! I sure hope you like music.

3) BREAK A LEG

Comedies are fun and all, but that’s not quite what we’re about here. You’ve all just been handed this week’s motive. What do you make of it? Is it one that might actually tempt you to kill, or did you get off lightly this time? Either way, maybe you’d better look around the room and see who else is having a rough time.

4) CURTAIN

It was bound to happen eventually. Someone is dead, and now it's time to go off and investigate. Were they close to you? Are you, perhaps, feeling guilty? Either way, it's probably best not to leave anyone alone right now.

5) CUE MUSIC

Feelings in a murder-opera can get pretty gosh darn intense. Sometimes you’ve just got to let it out. And hey, if you sing a song about whatever’s going on in your head, maybe someone will hear and come help you? Either way, this is a musical – there’s not really any reason not to sing.

[Mod Note: The song mechanic is meant to be fluid and simple. You do not have to produce your own song lyrics, nor are you required to use show tunes (although we do encourage it!). If you want to rewrite existing lyrics to fit the situation, go for it! Anything goes - if Mumford and Sons expresses your character’s current emotions, then break out the banjos. We want to keep the musical mechanic as fun and simple as we can to encourage our players to use it as much as they like.]

[ Her eyebrows furrow just a little bit she stays smiling. It’s been a few weeks since this all started, but she’s still used to all her castmates and still has to remind herself that they’re not all going to get what she means sometimes. ]

Ah, right, right— my bad.

Is it better to say “fiery prince”, then?

Hmm...

[Angus holds a hand to his chin and ponders this choice of words.]

Yes, that will do! [He grins and holds out his hands.] Can I see my pictures?

Oh! Sure.

[ She taps through the phone and brings up the gallery before turning it towards him. Along with the pictures of him, everyone else and all the rooms, there’s also several pictures of other girls Nana’s age as well as her school and dormitory. ]

I think they turned out pretty good.

[Angus nods in approval.] Yes, they capture my heart well!

[Nana will remember the fiery prince from another world forever. At least, as long as she holds this handheld electron photo-taker in safekeeping. His finger shoots out to point at the photo of the unknown girls.]

Are these your friends?

Hm? Oh... yes, they are.

[ They seem to make up most of what’s on her phone, and from all the other pictures they certainly seem like a lively groupgroup</> of girls. Nana focuses in on the picture Angus is pointing to with a fond smile. ]

That’s from the wrap of our first year performance of our class’ play, Starlight.

You're performers in training? [Angus says in surprise. Being so young, they must be apprentice actors, but they appear to love the craft well enough to excel when they graduate.] When I was younger, I often wondered what it would be like to be part of a theater troupe. They looked to have fun all of the time, and they were immensely loved by all.

[One of his friends is a might actor, warrior, and ruler. How must cooler can you get than that?]

Yes, we are! Our school is actually a music academy, but we’re in the actress department.

[ MUSICAL WITHIN A MUSICAL etc etc ]

And it is very fun! Though also a lot of hard work. Every day we have more lessons on acting, dancing, singing, stage fighting... and that’s just the classes, it’s nothing compared to the actual preparation for the play, with all the work Class B puts into directing us, the sets and props we help make and the endless rehearsals late into the night...

[ She looks back at her camera with the fondest of smiles. ]

But it always pays off. I wouldn’t trade that first performance of Starlight for anything.

You appear to fit far better on a stage than I do! [He gestures at her proudly. Perhaps he could have a commanding presence on stage, if he were an actor himself.] My duties as a prince keep me busy enough even without all that work in acting...

[How does the Hootsman do it? Being a long-lived cyborg probably helps.]]

Still, it's no wonder that professional actors are among the most respected people in any world. [He nods sagely to himself.]

Yes, I agree. I'm still just in training... but even just that training gives me so much respect for the professional out there.

[ She then shifts a little bit to get the basket of muffins out of the crook of her elbow. ]

Oh, but enough about me and all that... [ She holds the basket out to him. ] Would you like a muffin, by the way? They're my special banana muffins, made fresh just this morning!

[His eyes widen at the sight of the glorious treats.]

Of course! I will gladly sample one. [It's only nice, plus he was kind of hungry.]
