It's Curtains Act 2 Test Drive

1) CURTAINS UP
You’ve just woken up in a small dressing room, which is certainly not where you went to bed last night. Actually, do you even remember going to sleep…? Regardless, this isn't where you last were, and if you leave your room you’re going to find a lot of other people in the same state.

Go out and socialize! Most of these people may be strangers, but you’re gonna all have to get used to one another. And who knows? There may actually be a familiar face in the crowd.

2) THIS PETTY PACE
By now, you're acquainted with everybody here and you're slowly growing bored. Bored enough to kill? Hopefully not. You'd better try to find something else to do. You can always go hang out with your castmates, or maybe try and whip something up in the kitchen! There’s also a music room to keep you busy! I sure hope you like music.

3) BREAK A LEG
Comedies are fun and all, but that’s not quite what we’re about here. You’ve all just been handed this week’s motive. What do you make of it? Is it one that might actually tempt you to kill, or did you get off lightly this time? Either way, maybe you’d better look around the room and see who else is having a rough time.

4) CURTAIN
It was bound to happen eventually. Someone is dead, and now it's time to go off and investigate. Were they close to you? Are you, perhaps, feeling guilty? Either way, it's probably best not to leave anyone alone right now.

5) CUE MUSIC
Feelings in a murder-opera can get pretty gosh darn intense. Sometimes you’ve just got to let it out. And hey, if you sing a song about whatever’s going on in your head, maybe someone will hear and come help you? Either way, this is a musical – there’s not really any reason not to sing.

[Mod Note: The song mechanic is meant to be fluid and simple. You do not have to produce your own song lyrics, nor are you required to use show tunes (although we do encourage it!). If you want to rewrite existing lyrics to fit the situation, go for it! Anything goes - if Mumford and Sons expresses your character’s current emotions, then break out the banjos. We want to keep the musical mechanic as fun and simple as we can to encourage our players to use it as much as they like.]

6) WILDCARD
Make up your own prompt!

[Ariel spends a lot of time in the music room. She walks in and sees Angus holding the trumpet and hears his words.]

A trumpet! I recognize that one. I have never played it before. Does it work anything like a snarfblatt? If so, then I could show you how to play it.

[No, Ariel. You cannot play an instrument. Your instrument is your voice. Also, a snarfblatt is not a thing. Perhaps someone should educate her - quickly.]

[Angus startles when the young woman jumps in excitedly. He turns to her, apparently the expert in playing powerful brass instruments.]

I have never heard of a snarfblatt. Is it something from your world?

[He does hold out out for her.] Here. You can try it.

[Angus, how could you? Ariel usually has no idea what she is doing. She takes the trumpet as she explains.]

The snarfblatt is a human instrument. It is usually brown or black. It can have designs on the sides. It is has a blow-hole on each side; one to blow in and another where the music comes out. There are no other holes or buttons.

[Ariel holds down three keys and blows, letting go of one at a time. Okay, so a short scale, no need to cover your ears... yet. Still, she is no virtuoso.]
mcfife: nope (☀️and stars right before me)

[It...sounds like a trumpet. She certainly has played one before, not that she learned how to play it well. Angus' ears has had worse attack them, but he avoids making a face.]

Thank you. [He says the moment Ariel pauses her song.] I can see that you're blowing into it in an odd fashion.

[He can find other loud instruments, then. Do they have bagpipes, he wonders.]

Here it comes...

[personal profile] arieltritonsdaughter 2020-06-21 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
[That is sweet. No one taught her to play, but they do have trumpets, or at least brass instruments, "Under the Sea."]

Oh, I am? Should it be more like this?

[Ariel puts the trumpets to her lips again. She covers two holes and blows very hard. Time to cover your ears!]
mcfife: nope (☀️and stars right before me)

[The thing about high pitched metal vocals is that they have to sound interesting. They should sound controlled. Angus knows all about screaming and motivational loud music.

This is just discordant noise, like an evil spell cast by a chaos wizard to demotivate entire armies. Angus flinches and covers his ears.]

Hold on! [He hopes she can hear him over the "music".]

What was that?

[personal profile] arieltritonsdaughter 2020-06-23 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ariel hears him and stops. His voice is deep and strong. He sure knows how to make himself heard. She raises and eyebrow.]

Yes? What's wrong? I guess that was not right, either.

[Did she really not just hear that? Perhaps she should stick to singing. Maybe Angus can play the bagpipes for her... outdoors.]
